Mark your calendar for Friday, February 3, 2012 for Edgewater’s next dinner & movie, featuring Courageous. Dinner will be served in The Gathering Place at 6:00pm. The movie will be shown immediately after dinner in the main sanctuary.

Filled with action-packed police drama, COURAGEOUS is the fourth film from Sherwood Pictures, the movie making ministry of Sherwood Baptist Church in Albany, Georgia. Viewers will once again find themselves laughing, crying, and cheering as they are challenged and inspired by everyday heroes who long to be the kinds of dads that make a lifelong impact on their children.

Tickets are available at the Edgewater Welcome Center after each church service beginning Saturday, January 14th, and will also be available Monday through Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm at the Welcome Center.

A Prayer for Our Pastor

Father I lift up our Shepard, Pastor Dan, as he heads out on his sabbatical. Lord I pray that you will guide his every step and that you will send a host of angels to surround him in safety.

God I pray that during these weeks you will fill him up with your Holy Spirit and that you will reveal your majestic plan for him. I pray that during these weeks of restoration Dan will seek you, and that you will give him rest and peace for his soul and his spirit. As he travels from state to state I ask that you send people across his path that will bless him and show your love and grace through their actions.

I pray that you will be present in all aspects of his life over the next six weeks. I ask that Dan would hear your whispers that will call him to continue your ministry and your calling for his life.

Pastor Dan is such a blessing to us, and the Body of Christ called Edgewater lifts Dan up to you, trusting that you will restore him and send Dan back to us to continue his ministry in Charlotte County.

We thank you, Lord, for your abundance of blessings on our Church. We know that you have an amazing plan for us. We want to be a part of your desire to have people Meet, Know and Serve your son, Jesus. Give us the strength and the desire to pray for our leaders every day.

Thank you, God, for your love and your grace. But most of all, thank you for your son Jesus. All this I pray in His precious name. Amen.

Engage With Your Wife

Dan Allender, an author and Biblical scholar, teaches that those who have been given a wife by God will find her essential in the noble mission for which they were created to engage. The Lord God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a companion who will help him.” (Gen. 2:18)

In the Hebrew, this “companion and helper” to which God is referring is a “rescuer” in the context of a war! For example, this same Hebrew word is used in the passage from Psalm 46:1-2 to describe God as our rescuer: “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.”

So not only are we called to rescue our wives, but they in turn will rescue us. Our wives are a divine combination of strength and tenderness. We must love our wives, fight for their hearts, and call out their inner beauty and glory. And in time we will discover the reason our mission in this war requires engaging with our wives – entrusted to us as a companion, helper, and rescuer!

Honor Your Family and Your God

“The world, the flesh, and the devil have a strategy to beat us down and to discourage us.” What would it be like if we could “encourage each other and build each other up?” What if we had a Christ-like lens and vision for our friends, our spouses, and our children? If this really happened … we might just see a revolution for Christ in our homes, in our churches, and in our world!

Don’t just pretend that you love others. Really love them… Love each other with genuine affection, and take delight in honoring each other.” (Rom. 12:9-10)

Every man dies, but most men do not live a life and have a cause worth dying for. As a man, and as the leader of your family, do you desire to live a life and to leave a legacy that has eternal meaning? Are you willing to surrender your all to God – No Matter the Cost – so that you can become more like Jesus Christ – your brother and King?

Prepare ye the way… for the challenge is coming! Are you ready?
